Methodology

 

In the preparation of this Multilingual Vocabulary of Logistics, the character of a basic dictionary and the needs of the main recipients to whom it is addressed have been taken into account: students, who must find clear definitions; professionals and researchers, who need a resource with equivalents to the main languages ​​of communication; and linguistic mediators (translators, technical writers, interpreters), who require basic resources to approach the terminology of the sector.

 

In relation to the selection of terms, frequency criteria have been used on the compiled corpus, which fundamentally integrates academic texts on the subject and institutional reports on various issues related to transportation, mobility and the distribution of goods. It has also had the review of a specialist in the matter.

 

The vocabulary consists of 150 entries linked to the following thematic areas:

 

1. Logistics management

2. Supply and storage

3. Production

4. Packaging

5. Transportation and distribution

 

The entries are arranged alphabetically and in each entry you can find the following information:

 

• Entry in Catalan

• Grammatical information

• Definition in Catalan

• Equivalents in Spanish, English and French

• References (synonymous variants, acronyms and abbreviations)

• Notes (if necessary)

 

This resource has been completely developed with the Terminus 2.0 system, developed by the IULATERM (Lexicon and Technology) group of the Pompeu Fabra University: from the constitution and analysis of the corpus, the writing of the terminological files, the review and export to online vocabulary format and incorporation into the UPFTERM 2.0 terminological database, both located on the PORTALTERM website.
