Proteomics vocabulary

Methodology

In the decision-making process for the preparation of the Multilingual proteomics vocabulary, we have taken into account the nature of a basic dictionary of the subject and the needs of the main target users: students, who need to find clear definitions; researchers, who need a resource with equivalents in the main languages of communication; and linguistic mediators (translators, technical writers, interpreters), who will use these basic resources to approach the terminology of the field.

In relation to the selection of the terms, frequency criteria have been used on the collected corpus, which includes essentially scientific papers, teaching materials and some dissemination texts.

The vocabulary consists of 162 entries linked to the following subject areas:

1. General knowledge

3. Proteins
    3.1. Structure
    3.2. Properties
    3.3. Types

This resource has been completely elaborated with the Terminus 2.0 system, developed by the IULATERM group (Lexicon and Technology) of the Universitat Pompeu Fabra: starting with the creation and analysis of the corpus, the creation of the terminology records, the reviewing and export to online vocabulary format and the incorporation in the terminology data bank PORTALTERM.
